MCF (InterVarsity at Mac) Christmas 2016

Macalester Christian Fellowship December 2016

mcf-cross-training-2016

MCF has more than 15 leaders this year for our group of 35.

Our theme for the year is Psalm 18:2: The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge.

Highlights of the fall include four active Small Groups — each studying a different topic: Social Justice, John, Women in the Bible, Christianity and Culture.

The “REcon” (for reconciliation) team has done two inter-faith dialogues, one each with the Muslim and Buddhist chaplains on campus. These were rich discussions.

The above photo was taken at Cross Training, InterVarsity’s fall conference. I wish I could tell you about each student in the picture, but I’ll focus on only two:

Emily Brinkman ’17, third from left, serves as our “Servant Team Coordinator” (chapter president). Wow, I get to work with her. She is a woman of grace and competence, and plans to go into elementary education.

Under her leadership, the Servant Team spends considerable time building community, setting vision, praying, and making wise decisions.

Kyle Ronchetto ’17, with the hat, is our Large Group Coordinator and theologian extraordinaire. Sometimes he accompanies me on “Stump the Chump” outings where students can ask any question they wish about Christianity. He is thoughtful and articulate. And he can tell you the difference, say, between soteriological monergism vs. synergism :).

Kyle is headed to a Lutheran seminary next fall in St. Louis.

What everything boils down to at the college is that I simply love MCF students. It’s that simple. Sharon and I are hosting several in our home for some off-campus hospitality during the holidays.

If you’d like to give a gift to InterVarsity staff work at Macalester (my role, currently) here in December, the link is here. The need is definitely there. Thanks so much!
